Why did you gravitate towards watercolor as a medium?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>My belief is that my work and my process are inspired by God. I like to say, \u201cGod does the work, I just push the brush.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watercolor is such an exciting medium. I searched for an alternative on the web, and that is how I discovered Pro Tapes<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Which Pro Tapes<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> tape products do you use in your watercolor painting now<\/strong>?<strong> What do you use them for? What do you love about them?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I ended up reaching out to Pro Tapes<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> with questions on some products. Steve Espinal (Graphic Arts Market Manager at Pro Tapes<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>) then sent me several tape samples to try. As a result, I now use both <a href=\"\/products\/pro-796\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pro<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> 796<\/a> and <a href=\"\/products\/pro-788\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pro<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Ultimate Masking<\/a> in my painting process!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a class=\"imagegallery\" href=\"https:\/\/www.protapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Rolls-of-Pro-Ultimate-Masking-tape-and-a-roll-of-Pro-796-pH-Neutral-masking-tape.jpg\" rel=\"imagegallery4491\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.protapes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Rolls-of-Pro-Ultimate-Masking-tape-and-a-roll-of-Pro-796-pH-Neutral-masking-tape-1024x384.jpg\" alt=\"Pro\u00ae Ultimate Masking tape, shown here in 1&quot; and 2&quot; widths, and a roll of Pro\u00ae 796 pH Neutral masking tape.\" class=\"wp-image-4516\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I use <a href=\"\/products\/pro-796\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pro<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> 796<\/a> for elements not directly on the watercolor paper, and <a href=\"\/products\/pro-788\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pro<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Ultimate Masking<\/a> directly on the surface of the paper for&nbsp;masking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love the fact that both Pro<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Ultimate Masking and Pro<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> 796 are translucent. This allows me to see my drawing underneath. The translucency of the tape allows him to see his drawing underneath.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If someone has never used these masking tape<\/strong>s<strong> in their watercolor painting before, what advice would you give them?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I place the tape down over the edge line of the image that I want to mask, then trim out the shape with an X-acto knife. This technique requires some experience to develop the proper amount of pressure on the X-acto knife, so as not to score the watercolor paper surface underneath. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I started this technique using <a href=\"\/products\/pro-796\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pro<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> 796<\/a>, mainly because I prefer the neutral color, but I experienced some lifting of the paper surface.
